What an Apostille is and when you need one

Albania is a party to the Hague Convention abolishing the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents. An Albanian document bearing an Apostille is therefore accepted directly in the other member states – such as Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the USA – without embassy legalisation.

In Albania the Apostille is issued by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Countries that are not party to the Convention require consular legalisation instead.

Apostille on the original or on the translation?

This is the most common question – and the most expensive mistake. Some countries only require an Apostille on the original; others also want the notarised translation to carry its own Apostille.
